The action Sustainable Cities and National Policies for Urban Development in the Context of the New Post-2015 Urban Agenda, developed by the Ministério das Cidades [Ministry of Cities] in the context of the European Union-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Project, held its second work meeting on March 1st, in São Paulo.
The activity took place during the “Meeting Towards the Habitat III Conference”, in the context of the discussions addressed at Panel Session 12, whose theme was “SDG 11 and the Monitoring of Urban Development Indicators”. These discussions focused on the challenges for establishing indicators for monitoring urban infrastructure policies and their contributions towards committing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in connection with the New Urban Agenda.
On that occasion, David Satterthwaite, from the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), and senior expert for the Sector Dialogues Project, raised some questions about the theme, such as the simplification of indicators, the need to adapt indicators to different contexts, and the capacity to collect data from low-income countries. Also in this context, Pedro Lara de Arruda, from the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG), and junior expert for the Project, highlighted the importance of an agenda for monitoring and assessing urban policies to potentialize their leveraging effects for inclusive growth.
