Brazil has made ??progress in ensuring the civil rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) populations and in enhancing the awareness of public policymakers, promoting public events and a national campaign against homophobia in addition to strengthening social control. The action selected by the fifth Call of the Sector Dialogue on Human Rights is conducting a comparative study between the experiences of European countries and Brazil so as to amass data about homophobia and the rights granted to the LGBT population.
The initiative will promote a comparative study on advances in strategies to deal with homophobia in Brazil and the European Union, particularly the inclusion of the LGBT population in social welfare systems. There will also be an event to report on advances in the recognition of LGBT rights and on monitoring homophobia-related data as well as the launch of a digital publication which maps best practices regarding compliance with LGBT rights in Brazil and the European Union.
