In order to present the findings of the Brazilian Sanitation Information System (BraSIS) in the action sponsored in 6th Call of the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) held a seminar on 13 and 14 June in Brasilia, targeting researchers and their foreign partners.
Students of the National School of Public Health (ENSP/Fiocruz) and staff from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (Embrapa) and the Ministries of Planning, Cities and Environment participated in the presentations and debates addressing the quality of research and information on sanitation systems in Brazil. Also in attendance was Mr Adauto Santos, an expert especially hired for this dialogue with the European Union.
The speakers addressed the work project for the BraSIS action, the concepts involved in sanitation information systems and the transition of the current Brazilian system to the new model, currently under development. Previously, Fiocruz staff had already participated in a technical exchange mission to Italy and had also shared that experience.
The central aim of the work was to bring together European and Brazilian researchers seeking to improve the water supply information system. "Now, a book will be published with the reports produced from this initiative", says researcher Clarice Melamed, from ENSP/Fiocruz. According to her, this compilation will feature articles by the Brazilian scientists involved and, hopefully, also by the staff of the Joint Research Centre.
