On March 9th, representatives of the Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação – MCTI [Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation], the Conselho Nacional das Fundações Estaduais de Amparo à Pesquisa – CONFAP [Brazilian National Council of State Research and Innovation Support Foundations] and the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo – FAPESP [São Paulo Research Foundation] participated in the “EU-Brazil Workshop: Coordinated Call on Advanced Biofuels”, in Brussels, Belgium.
On the same line approached during the seminar held in December 2015, in São Paulo, the European event promoted more in-depth discussions on the themes of the projects to be submitted to the Brazil-European Union Coordinated Call on Advanced Biofuels, sponsored by the European Commission together with the aforesaid Brazilian institutions, to foster the development of new technologies for the large scale production biofuels from lignocellulosic biomass.
Organized by the European Commission, under the aegis of Horizonte 2020, the largest research and innovation program of the European Union, the workshop relied on a partnership with the European Union-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Project, which sponsored the trip of the Brazilian participants, including: Eduardo Soriano Lousada, General Coordinator for Sector Technologies of the MCTI, and Gustavo de Lima Ramos, Deputy Coordinator for Development Actions in the Energy Sector of the MCTI.
On that occasion, participants made technical-scientific presentations on the research lines listed in the notice for the Coordinated Call, such as research applied to biomass production logistics and the diversification of raw material for advanced biofuels. According to Gustavo Ramos, “in addition to clarifying issues related to the guidelines to be followed by the proposals, the meeting made it possible for the most important Brazilian and European research groups working in the field of advanced biofuels to get together, thus enabling the formation of consortia for the presentation of joint cooperation projects regarding this call”.
Proposals may be submitted from May 11th to September 8th, 2016. Brazil and the European Union are expected to invest 6 to 10 million Euros in the selected projects.
