On 6 and 7 June, the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MTE) held the Brazil-EU Seminar on Health and Safety at Work. Sponsored by the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility, the event brought together Brazilian and European experts in the field of safety at work, staff from the MTE and other ministries and representatives from the Labour Department of Justice, as well as from trade unions and employers associations.
During the event, participants attended lectures and discussions on three major issues of bilateral interest: management of safety and health in the construction industry; vertical transport of people and materials in this sector; and conformity assessment of machinery and equipment.
The guest European experts presented the normative scope of safety in construction in the European Union and its application. Subsequently, Brazilian experts proposed ways to adapt those rules to the reality of the country, while discussing the current situation in Brazil.
"We brought professionals with vast credibility in the field", said Ms Eva Gonçalo Pires, labour tax auditor and one of the seminar organisers. "The whole project has been very profitable for us, mainly due to the best practices shared and the expertise acquired", she adds.
The seminar concluded a first round of exchanges between Brazil and the EU in the field of ??health and safety at work. The most important conclusions of this stage will be compiled into a professional booklet to be published in July. "Now, we want to expand the work and submit further actions in the forthcoming project calls", said the auditor.
