The new portal of the European Union-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility has several new features aimed at enhancing user experience, visual appeal and tool workability.
Visual appeal
Both the portal and the actions application system were given a new look -- more in line with brand identity and design trends. The goal is to make both tools more interesting and easier to navigate.
The brand’s colour system now allows for more intuitive navigation, making it easier to identify buttons and operations thus facilitating usability. White was chosen to replace grey as navigation background, giving the website a cleaner look and making it less tiring to use.
From the point of view of typography, we chose to use the font DIN Albert Jean-Pool as a priority in all texts, so the product is more faithful to the brand manual and now has an elegant navigation font.
Navigation Strategy
The navigation strategy used in the portal meets two key purposes. Firstly, it provides the user with input on institutional project information in an oriented and organised manner, having blue as the priority colour. Secondly, it functions as a service delivery channel for users by means of the right hand-side bar, whose priority color is yellow. This aims to facilitate service and information orientation for each user profile.
A consistent portal framework was also implemented, with accessory bars that allow for a more fluid and rich navigation experience resulting from the information posted, be it institutional, news or services.
Three different types of navigation reasoning were used to complement the previous structure of the system. The first was the ‘checkout’ reasoning, which allows users to have a sequential view of their registration process, details, execution actions, providing a clear view of the logical structure of the project during navigation.
The second type of reasoning was based on the tables-and-tabs system, typical of e-commerce/ticket sales websites. This reasoning helps to better group and organise information, creating large theme-based blocks.
The last type of reasoning implemented in the system relates to the tips. Each field that the user fills in comes with an attached tip that guides the user on the best fill-in practices and reduces the time used on the system by clarifying on the spot any queries that may arise
The overall goals of these changes were:
• Facilitate system use
• Generate dynamic learning of the system’s mental model while it is being used
• Encourage best fill-in practices
• Reduce the amount of rework and access to service channels due to queries.
