In March, the Head of the International Affairs Office of the Ministério da Ciência Tecnologia e Inovação – MCTI [Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation], Danilo Zimbres, attended several events in Europe related to the action Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation between Brazil and the European Union: Outcomes and Perspectives, sponsored by the European Union-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Project.
In Brussels, Belgium, Danilo Zimbres represented Celso Pansera, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, at the 5th Senior Officials Meeting of the Joint Initiative on Research and Innovation, (JIRI) of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union. As pointed out by the General Coordinator for Bilateral Cooperation of MCTI’s International Affairs Office, Ana Lúcia Stival, “the Brazilian participation in this event has certainly strengthened relations between Brazil and the States that are part of this initiative”.
Still in Brussels, the MCTI representative participated in working meetings with officials from the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the European Research Council (ERC), whose President, Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, proposed an agreement, so Brazilian researchers may have access to the ERC resources for financing state-of-the-art research. The proposal is expected to be formalized by July. “This excellent cooperation opportunity was raised during the mission”, said Danilo Zimbres.
In the Netherlands, the Head of the MCTI International Affairs Office met representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), in Hague. On that occasion, the importance of this collaboration between Brazil and the Netherlands was emphasized, and new possibilities for partnerships were fostered. Danilo Zimbres also visited the Deltares Institute and the Delft University of Technology.
