Over 1,000 people, including public agents and managers, specialists and entrepreneurs, attended the “Management Innovation in the Public Sector Week – Transforming Ideas into Solutions”, which took place in Brasília, from November 30th to December 4th. The event was an initiative of the Ministério do Planejamento (MP) [Ministry of Planning] and the Tribunal de Contas da União (TCU) [Federal Court of Accounts], in partnership with the European Union-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Project, under the coordination of the European Union Delegation to Brazil (DELBRA) and the Ministry of Planning (MP).
On the first two days, Escola Nacional de Administração Pública – ENAP [Brazilian National School of Public Administration] hosted the event Startup Gov, which promoted the development of innovative prototypes in the areas of education and public management. The event was geared towards the Federal Public Administration. This session was followed by an international conference, on December 2 and 3, which counted on renowned speakers from several countries. New qualification courses on the theme were provided free of charge on the last day.
The following participants were present at the conference opening: Head of the Information Society Sector at DELBRA, Councilor Augusto de Albuquerque; Secretary for Public Management of the Ministry of Planning, Genildo Lins; Substitute Justice at the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), Augusto Sherman; ENAP President, Gleisson Rubin; Deputy Director for Public Governance and Territorial Development of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Luiz de Mello; and the Director of the MindLab Innovation Laboratory, Denmark, Thomas Prehn.
On that occasion, DELBRA’s councilor noted that the Internet and new technologies are changing the world, and governments need to learn how to use them effectively. “It is necessary to meet the new demands coming from society. Therefore, innovation in public services is fundamental. We have to take advantage of the creative and innovative potential of this event to improve public management”, Augusto de Albuquerque pointed out.
Under this light, the Secretary for Public Management of the Ministry of Planning stated that the challenges faced by the Government now require new responses. “Society has been claiming for collaborative spaces to strengthen participative democracy. In order to make progress in the public management sector, we need new management solutions, such as the prototypes developed in the StartupGov event”, stressed Genildo Lins.
