In September, members of the Products and Productive Systems Life Cycle Assessment Project (ACV) of the Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia – IBICT [Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology] were in Bordeaux, France, to attend the “7th International Conference on Life Cycle Management”, and take part in the annual meeting of the International Life Cycle Board, the workshop on inventory review methodology, and in the alignment meeting with Joint Research Centre (JRC) representatives. The mission was comprised of the project coordinator, Tiago Emmanuel Nunes Braga, and researchers Thiago Oliveira Rodrigues and Arij Mohamad Radwan Omar Chabrawi.
The main activity carried out by the delegation was a work meeting with JRC. “The meeting was very positive, because it brought the teams of both institutions closer. Now, communication is more streamlined”, stated the coordinator of IBICT ACV Project, who also presented the Brazilian position regarding ACV management during the talk given at the workshop on inventory review.
According to Tiago Braga, the international conference is the largest conference on ACV in the world and enabled the consolidation of knowledge on the interoperability of databases, the methodology used on inventory review and public policies regarding ACV. According to him, “it was extremely important to participate in the academic discussions on ACV, because that knowledge may be incorporated into the Banco Nacional de Inventários de Ciclo de Vida [National Database of Life Cycle Inventories] in the future”.
The mission was promoted by the action Consolidação do Banco Nacional de Inventários do Ciclo de Vida (SICV Brazil) [Consolidation of the National Database of Life Cycle Inventories], sponsored by the European Union-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Project.
