Publication
The book 10 Faces da Luta pelos Direitos Humanos no Brasil tells the stories of ten human rights defenders under the special protection of the Brazilian government. The publication was launched in late 2012 by the Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (SDH / PR), the European Union Delegation in Brazil (Delbra) and the United Nations office in Brazil, in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The stories of these men and women represent the experiences of all defenders included and assisted by the PPDDH and the state PPDDFs. The actions cover different areas: the right to land, to life, to appropriate and non-violent treatment, to the environment, to the maintenance of traditional, indigenous, quilombola (slave descendants) and fishing communities.
IDEHA System – This brings together, in a virtual environment, secure information on threatened human rights defenders. The platform contains data collected during the visits and protection activities.
10th anniversary of the PPDDH - The Programme to Protect Human Rights Defenders (PPDDH) of the SDH / PR was created in 2004 to adopt and coordinate measures that ensure the protection of people who are at risk or threat due to their role in promoting or defending human rights.
The book and platform launch in Porto Alegre (RS) was sponsored by the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility, an initiative coordinated jointly by the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (MPOG), and Delbra. The event was selected by 7th call for participation under the sector dialogue on Human Rights and its Brazilian partner institution is the Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency (SDH-PR), while its European counterpart is Delbra.
