This month, representatives from public and private institutions involved with transportation attended the “Multimodal Transportation Seminar - Brazil and European Union Experiences and Challenges”. The seminar was organized by the Agência Nacional de Transportes Terrestres (ANTT) [National Land Transportation Agency] in connection with the European Union-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Project, an initiative coordinated by the European Union Delegation to Brazil (DELBRA) and the Ministry of Planning, Development and Management (MP).
The seminar counted on the participation of Herbert Drummond, Secretary for National Policy on Transportation of the Ministério dos Transportes, Portos e Aviação Civil [Ministry of Transportation, Ports and Civil Aviation], Jorge Bastos, General Director of ANTT, Fernando Fonseca, Deputy General Director of the Agência Nacional de Transportes Aquaviários – ANTAQ [National Water Transportation Agency], Luis Felipe Salin Monteiro, Director of the Modernization of Public Management Department of the Secretariat for Management at the MP, Augusto de Albuquerque, the Minister-Counsellor of the European Union Delegation to Brazil (DELBRA), and Paul Zwetsloot, from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Brazil.
According to Helthon Damasceno, Analyst at the ANTT Office for Executive Coordination (COEXE), “The goal of the event was to foster the exchange of experiences in developing multimodal logistics corridors, as provided by the technical cooperation agreement executed between ANTT and the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport”.
During the event, participants presented the most important aspects involved in planning multimodal transportation policies. They also presented case studies on multimodal transportation corridors, their development in Brazil and the main challenges involved. Also in the program was how the private sector views their development and the possibilities for funding infrastructure work.
