Under the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogue on Industrial and Regulatory Issues, six seminars for the textile sector were held on 19th and 20th January 2012, in São Paulo, Brazil. The period chosen coincided with two major fashion events in Brazil: the Salão Première Brazil and the São Paulo Fashion Week. This set of events is part of the initiatives covered by the 4th Call for Participation of the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility.
On the 19th , the seminars Market prospects in the EU textile and clothing sectors and R & D and public and private policies in the fashion industry, were held at Expo Center Norte, a traditional events venue. On the 20th, seminars on Policies on the environment and sustainability, including REACH, Anthropometric studies and Industrial and trade policies took place in the auditorium of the Brazilian Textile Industry Association (ABIT), the Brazilian partner institution in EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility and organiser of the events.
"These events aim to increase know-how on regulatory matters and industrial policy in textiles and clothing both in Brazil and the European Union," explained ABIT CEO, Fernando Pimentel.
The seminars were conducted by European experts and were attended by 53 participants - 26 people on the 19th and 27 people on the 20th and included policymakers, academics, industry representatives, entrepreneurs and other organisations related to Brazils textile and clothing industry. The topics addressed had been identified as a priority by government and textile and clothing sector representatives in Brazil and the EU.
Throughout the meetings, participants were able to engage in greater dialogue and improve the knowledge the textile and clothing industry in Brazil has of the European market, as well as share successful experiences in the field of industrial and trade policies and research and innovation in textiles and clothing. Each stage of the seminars comprised two days of discussion on priority themes and two days visiting Première Brazil and São Paulo Fashion Week, in which participants also attended the fashion shows.
Seminars in Europe
The project also involves a second round of seminars in Europe, on 13th and 14th February 2012. The choice of date, as has occurred in Brazil, also coincides with an important event for the industry, the Premier Vision in Paris. The dynamics will be similar to those adopted in Brazil.
