Experts from the Brazilian Ministry of Planning (MP) were invited to attend SEMIC2018, the European Union’s Conference on Semantic Interoperability, held in Sofia (Bulgaria) to present, along with Japan, Uruguay and the EU, the details of the Brazilian government’s digital transformation strategy.
The technical mission to Europe took place on 12-16 June and aimed at exchanging experiences in information and communication technology governance in the public sector, and is part of a project under the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility.
Luis Felipe Monteiro – MP's Information and Communication Technology Secretary – and Sandro Furtado – MP's Coordinator-General for Digital Public Services Platforms – exchanged experiences in the provision of digital public services and the interoperability of public systems and data interconnection.
"It was a great pleasure to be meeting with prominent European experts concerned with finding the best solutions for public services and assistance to citizens," said Monteiro, who met with EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel to strengthen cooperation between the UE and Brazil regarding interoperability, digital government and protection of personal information.
From Sofia, the Brazilian experts headed to London, where they attended the Governing in a Digital Age workshop at the Blavatnik Government School, Oxford University. “The workshop looked at how technologies and the shift to a digital society can support developing countries in promoting better services for their citizens and also economic and social development. We were able to exchange experiences with experts from countries such as Mexico and South Africa, as well as researchers from Harvard and Oxford, among others,” said Monteiro.
