Four booklets with language and visual appeal specially designed to teach children about their rights are the first publications to be launched in the third phase of the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility. The booklets are part of the programme Futuro em Jogo: pelos direitos humanos, pelas crianças, pelo futuro (Future at Stake: for human rights, for children, for the future), coordinated by the European Union Delegation in Brazil (Delbra) in partnership with the Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency (SDH).
One of the booklets introduces children to the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Another discusses the importance of the Statute of Children and Adolescents, through Maurício de Souza’s cartoon characters, which are hugely popular in Brazil. The third publication also addresses the rights of children and the fourth, called Countries Without Borders, provides information on Europe and the European Union.
In addition to the publications, the Future at Stake programme also included the Junior Eurocup, a football tournament held on April 26 with the participation of around 350 students from 32 public schools in low-income areas of the Federal District, who represented Brazil and the 28 Member States of the European Union. The action also included the promotion of a drawing competition on the theme of Human Rights. The best drawing from each school was exhibited at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Centre (CCBB), in Brasilia.
