The 7th Call of the EU-Brazil Sector Dialogues Support Facility achieved a record number of actions to be supported. Forty of the 53 proposals received were approved and will receive benefits totaling around R$ 4 million.
Among the 17 selected dialogues, those with the largest number of proposals approved were Social Development and Employment, Science and Technology with a total of six each. The dialogue on Science and Technology also featured prominently with the topics covered during the 7th Brazil -EU Summit, held on 24 February in Brussels: Marine Research, Life Cycle Analysis, Nanotechnology , Geotechnology and Landscape Ecology, Centre for Biotechnology Innovation and Adaptive Water Management.
The dialogues on Agriculture and Rural Development and Sanitary and Phyto-sanitary Issues returned in full strength by addressing issues such as animal welfare, transport of live loads, assessment auditing of agricultural defense systems, the Brazil-European Union SPS Consultation Mechanism, agricultural satellite monitoring and geographical indications as a tool for rural development .
Another highlight was the participation of new Brazilian partners in the project, who submitted their first proposals: the National Supply Company (Conab), the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (Embrapa), the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT), the Ministry of Social Security (MPAS), the Court of Audit (TCU), the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger (MDS) and the National Institute for Space Research (INPE).
Throughout March, the proposed actions were detailed and formalised by means of Terms of Reference. At the end of this process, participants should submit the terms for approval by the EU Delegation in Brazil (Delbra) and the National Project Director (DNP), so activities can get under way.
